Episode 35
Jul. 6th, 2009 10:28 amNext week I will hopefully be inspired to write shenanigans that will up the OMGNOHEDIDN'T factor and generally amuse and delight your all! Please bear with me, and once more I apologize for the boring filler chapter!!!

“What question?”
“Do you always wear stilettos?”
“Nah,”
Yazoo giggled and reached back to touch his lean face, turning slightly to look up at him, gazing into those large, sly blue eyes with amazed joy.
So this was what it felt like to be in love? No wonder people killed over it, fought over it, and died without it. Now that he knew what it was,
“Whatchu thinkin’ of, Cateyes?” the man asked, his voice low and intimate. He shifted over him, cupping
“I’m thinking of how lucky I am to have you,” he answered.
There came a soft knock on the door and
“Yes?” he called, trying to keep the startled warble out of his throat.
“Mrs. ShinRa, it’s Marlene!” the girl called. “You wanted me to let you know when it was seven and it’s five ‘til!”
“Oh!”
“You’re welcome!” the girl cheerfully said. “I’m going down to get your dress but I’ll be back to put up your hair, okay?”
“Leave it down,”
“O…okay!”
“Go like this,” he insisted, and turned his attention to the other nipple.
“I can’t!”
“Then I guess you’ll just have to stay here while I’m gone,”
“Keep lookin’ at me like that,”
“Why?”
“So we can both stay here,” the man purred, and pulled back after another wet, lingering kiss. He gave
When he was finished,
“I’ll be back to get you in a few hours,” he whispered, his breath warm against
“I’m brining you back after the Gala,” the man promised, and
Tseng watched Kadaj as the young boy strutted to the car, his souba strapped to his hip in a decorative sheath whose ornament disguised the true nature of the weapon itself. As usual, Kadaj looked stunning, his fair Cetran features set off against the stark black of his clothing like a jewel nestled in rich velvet.
“Kadaj,” he purred, and lifted the boy’s hand to place a sucking, rough kiss on the inside of his wrist. “You still my heart…”
Kadaj smirked, his vanity pleased by the compliment. He was young yet, and prone to be easily swayed by meaningless compliments, but so jaded already that everything was viewed with the same wry, suspicious humor that so marked his father.
“Then I suppose I’ll have to get it racing again,” he quipped, settling into the limo with a saucy smirk. He was feeling confident in his power over Tseng now, beginning to believe that he truly held sway over the man’s icy heart. It was an illusion that Tseng catered to, and for now it amused him to indulge Kadaj’s childish and predictable beliefs. The time for discipline would come later, as would the time for tears – but Tseng paced himself, as he always had.
There was no sense in rushing it. He wanted Kadaj completely, his spirit broken, his pride in shambles, his every desire to grant Tseng his smallest whim…
“I suppose you shall,” Tseng said, smiling at him, and brushed cold, appreciative fingers down the youth’s tight side to the swell of his hip.
Kadaj shivered but shifted to get more of Tseng’s touch, and the Wutain lord was very reluctant to call it a stop there – however, they were very near the gallery itself and he didn’t want to start something there would be no time to finish. He was more interested in seeing the look on
With his fine brows drawn close, he demanded, “Do I amuse you somehow, Sir?”
“Only with your endless ability to leave me so breathlessly sated,” Tseng said, and leaned close to breathe into Kadaj’s ear, “And if I tell you again to call me Tseng, then I propose a punishment – five licks of the belt for each time.”
Kadaj shivered, his green gaze turning to fasten onto Tseng’s own, a slow smile curving up the full pout of his lips, “Is that a promise…Sir?”
Tseng smiled and settled back against the seat, purring, “I had hoped you would say that.”
The crowd of reporters and cameramen was thick outside of the huge, covered glass doors of the gallery, snapping photographs of the gentlemen and ladies strolling down the entrance way. None of them were in a hurry, enjoying the spotlight and taking the time to chat with a few of the reporters.
Every overly rich and bored person in Midgar liked to have their name touted as that of a generous, charitable person, it was simply human nature.
Yazoo gripped Reno’s fingers tightly with his own and took a deep breath as the limo rolled to a stop, lights flashing and the reporters flooding in when they recognized his car.
“I gotcha, Cateyes,”
For a picture, it couldn’t have been more perfect –
“Mrs. ShinRa! Do you have any thoughts of what has been happening in Wutai?!”
“Is it true that you’re leaving your husband?”
“
Rude handed
“Ladies and gentlemen, please excuse me if I seem rushed, but I am very eager to see Mr. Tuesti’s paintings – which you all will be allowed to view after the opening,” Yazoo said, smiling brightly as Reno slipped out next to him, dangerous and sleek. He didn’t so much as bat an eyelash when
Cloud pushed his way through the other reporters, trying to get to the rope so that
He slipped between a reporter from The Kalm Times and a cameraman from the daily Morning Show to strain against the ropes near the guarded entrance.
Cloud resisted the impulse to wave his arms wildly in the air to get his attention, but the couple passed by him without so much as a glance in his direction. He opened his mouth to shout to
So this was the guy that Yuffie had been so worried about? The man that Cloud could find absolutely no information on? He didn’t need a history to realize that Yuffie had every right to be worried – there was an aura of calm menace to the man that lifted the fine hairs at the nape of Cloud’s neck.
He was just standing there staring at him, thinking that he recognized him somehow, when a movement at the door snagged his attention.
Cloud ducked under the rope and hurried to him, bypassing the security with a smug smirk when
“Thanks,” Cloud said, and shot a triumphant look back at his fellow reporters.
Cloud grinned and followed him inside, that large, bald, frightening man at his back.
“Late!” Reeve squeaked, his hazel eyes huge and just this side of terrified.
“Darling, please, you’re giving me a case of the vapors, do calm down,” Genesis said, giving his nose another light pat with his powder puff before snapping his compact closed. He patted Reeve’s knee, which nearly sent the overwrought painter fleeing from the moving vehicle, and said, “Just remember to keep breathing, and look at me if you get nervous.”
“Look at you?!” Reeve demanded, and laughed. “You make me more nervous than falling asleep in a room full of poisonous snakes!”
“Darling, how you do flatter,” Genesis said, and laughed lightly. He straightened against the seat and said, “We’ve arrived, dearest! Do try to smile, Reeve, you look so stern!”
Reeve was nearly frantic with nerves, but when he pasted a smile on for Genesis to approve, the redhead shook his head and said, “Oh, dear, no – stern will do for now, darling.”
Reeve had no time to respond, the car door was unceremoniously yanked open.
Unfortunately, he had been leaning against it and spilled out onto the carpet on his back.
“Oh dear.”
Genesis loomed into view, concerned, and asked, “Are you quite alright?”
He snagged Reeve by both hands and yanked him to his feet, far stronger than Reeve had given him credit for. He immediately went to work brushing Reeve off while the man muttered, “Perfect, my debut and they’ll print that I was a klutz.”
“Not clumsy, darling, just drunk,” Genesis assured him, and straightened with a smile, not even seeing the cameras or the crowd. He winked at Reeve and looped his arm through the painter’s, turning him with a broad, pleased, and utterly Diva smile.
“Genesis! Genesis! Is it true that you’ve been financing Mister Tuesti here in Midgar?”
“Mister Rhapsodos, can you give us a hint of the nature of his work?”
“Darling, I’m afraid my father cannot hear you, he’s off in Banora, silly man!” Genesis trilled, and fairly dragged Reeve towards the door.
Reeve, overwhelmed by the press of people, the lights, and the commotion, merely stared around in abject terror, looking anything but the dreaded stern.
Yuffie managed to make her own graceful exit from her car, falling out in a spill of drunken laughter. Her bodyguard helped her up, waiting until she got her balance on her too-high heels. Yuffie giggled and swung her arm wide, declaring, “I made it!” and nearly smashing a camera from the hand of someone who had ventured far too close. She laughed at his disgruntled check of the lens and said, “Oops!”
As she was making her wobbling way up the carpet, leaning heavily on her guard, she spied that Wutain Lord she’d seen the night before at the club. He was getting out of his car with
Kadaj slid out of the car behind Tseng like a graceful, lithe feline. He brushed his silver hair back absently and took up the place just behind and to Tseng’s right that he was used to taking with
“You are no bodyguard tonight,” Tseng said, glancing back at him and pointing to a place at his side. “You belong here, my Jewel. You serve no Master, Kadaj.”
Kadaj slipped up next to him, beginning to get used to this treatment. He liked the fact that Tseng thought so highly of him, and he was pleased that such an attractive, powerful man would be enamored of him. After Mei Li’s words, he was more inclined to go ahead and leave for Wutai with Tseng when he went. There was nothing for him, here, but he was determined to see it for himself –
Well, not anymore.
He caught movement out of the corner of his eye and tensed, his hand tightening on the hilt of the souba, his reflexive response only barely restrained by Tseng’s cautioning hand as that Wutain tart came floundering up to them.
Kadaj wrinkled his nose at the acrid scent of alcohol that wafted off of her, but he relaxed – a drunken Princess was no threat, especially when she could hardly keep herself on her dainty little feet.
“Do you remember me?” she asked, and grinned wolfishly, hanging off of her guard’s broad shoulder like some kind of limp vine.
“How could I forget?” Kadaj asked, eyes narrowing and brows drawing close. “You groped me that night, Princess.”
She giggled and looked at Tseng, saying with self-importance, “That’s me, Princess Yuffie Kisagari.”
Tseng inclined his head in a respectful bow and purred, “I am Tseng, of the humble Dai Jiao province. I am honored to meet the single daughter of the most respected Kisagari line.”
Yuffie appeared fairly amused by that, and giggled accordingly, not one to stand on tradition.
“D’you know
Tseng graced her with a cool, reserved smile and said, “I am afraid, my most honored Princess, that the boy is anything but a watchdog.”
She blinked at him, bewildered by the offense he had taken on Kadaj’s behalf.
Kadaj gave her a cold smirk and looked ahead to see if he could spot
“You didn’t answer me,” Yuffie pointed out, and groped to grab Tseng’s arm, saying, “Back off, mister guard guy! We Wutain people stick together!”
Tseng sighed slightly but escorted her willingly enough. It never hurt to have the friendship of the royal family, and Tseng’s dealings in Dai Jiao could always use more blind eyes turned his way. And if his contact was a brainless Princess, then so be it.
“He really, really looks like
“You are imagining things, surely,” Tseng said, his voice smooth and soothing as he tried to distract her. “They are merely from the same part of their country, near the Capital.”
Yuffie made a small noise but didn’t appear convinced. She staggered along next to Tseng while Kadaj flowed at his side like silk, those Jenova eyes scanning the crowd, always searching for what he could never have.
Mei Li, for once, was glad of the movement-inhibiting qualities of her native dress and shoes. It kept her from catching up to Tseng and Kadaj, and what appeared to be a Wutain woman too drunk to stand. She didn’t envy that girl if Tseng decided to teach her a lesson. He wasn’t known for his mercy, only his frightening patience.
“Okay, I feel really uncomfortable,” Zack murmured, keeping his chin tilted down to hide his face. “I didn’t know there would be cameras.”
“What is wrong with cameras?” Mei Li asked, watching different people be snapped up by the press, clearly enjoying every second of it. She found these Midgarian people almost barbaric in a way, so immersed in their own selfish culture that they had no meaning anymore. They would sooner watch endless tapes of themselves fawning before a camera than attend an opera or join a friend for tea. It was absolutely childish in it’s self-absorption, and Mei Li was not impressed.
Zack’s anxiety, however, drew her interest back to him, and she tip-toed daintily next to him with a curious, assessing look on her beautiful face.
“You do not wish for your face to be seen,” she commented, and smiled. “It makes me wonder why…”
Zack, true to form, did not comment. His inability to lie was truly to her advantage and Mei Li would take every advantage available to her.
“You no more belong in Midgar than I do, Zack,” she said, and watched Tseng-shifu vanish inside with the drunk woman and the boy. “We are relegated to watchers in a place such as this. I wonder, if I told you why I have come, would you tell me what you are fleeing from?”
Zack’s hand tightened around her waist and his mouth thinned to a grim, unhappy line. In a low whisper, he said, “I would never ask such a confidence from you.”
Mei Li laughed lightly and said, “Only because you would not wish the obligation of a confidence in return. I am Wutain, Zack – my curiosity is only tempered by my manners.”
Zack’s hand loosened a little at her waist, but Mei Li got the impression that he dipped his head to whisper to her more to hide his face from the cameras than to be heard by her.
“Believe me,” he said. “It isn’t worth the effort, Mei Li. There is nothing in my past that would do you any good to know.”
Mei Li let a slow, pleased smile grace her full lips and purred, “That alone tells me that it would do someone good to know, Zack.”
He stared at her for a long moment with those violet-blue eyes of his before he abruptly said, “Let’s get inside.”
Mei Li inclined her head in a graceful bow and tip-toed her way to the door on Zack’s arm.
She was certain that this would prove to be a most interesting evening, and she was eager to watch it all play out before her secretive, heavy-lidded eyes.
And two beautiful pictures by the talented and inspiring artist

Date: 2009-07-06 07:53 pm (UTC)Its always a pleasure to see Yazoo happy even if I know that it wont last... :( And I wonder whats going on in the head of Reno... It would be very interesting to know.
Genesis and Reeve were hilarious ! OMG, the picture of Genesis and his powder puff ! its just SO him ! And the grand arrival of Reeve.. :p
Kadaj. Now I feel sorry for him as well. But the Yuffie/Tseng/Kadaj trio was something ! I love Yuffie. She is an obnoxious drunk, she has no shame whatsoever, a bit of a female version of Reno. You cant help liking them despite their behaviour :)
And I really wonder where Cloud saw Rude before...
Cant wait for the gala ! thanks for a great chapter and HUGS to you ! :D
The pictures of Bela are priceless ! I just adore the face of Yazoo, especially in the second one, with his happy little smile ! so cute ! :D

Date: 2009-07-10 02:49 pm (UTC)Hehe! The more I write Genesis and Reeve, the more I adore them! They are exact opposites and that makes for some exploitable hilarity! hehe!
And yay for Yuffie! She IS a female Reno - that's probably why he doesn't like her, haha!
Most (but not all!) shall be revealed at the Gala! Keep your fingers crossed, and thank you again for being so supportive! *snugs you*

Date: 2009-07-06 08:50 pm (UTC)And Kadaj is being a silly little brat... I hope nothing happens to him because I would have to start kicking ppl...
And poor Zack :( I want him to meet up with Cloud ^^
And poor Reeve ROTFMAO xD
no subject
Date: 2009-07-10 02:46 pm (UTC)Kadaj is just struggling to find his place still. Tseng intrigues him with hints about who he is, but he is too scared of losing Reno and his sense of self to ask, and all he really wants is to be Reno's only and first lover...never going to happen, poor baby.
Zack will probably meet Cloud at the Gala! :D I don't think any of them will be strangers to one another for much longer!
*pets Reeve* It only gets worse, darling...lol!

Date: 2009-07-06 09:08 pm (UTC)This was all kinds of awesome, building up to the Gala in a perfect pace, painting the scene with the grand (and in Reeve's case not-so-grand, poor guy!) arrivals on the red carpet! WOOT! I sense Oscar-mood here!!!
I don't even need to pin out every great little detail. I loved it all, and I think this is the perfect build-up to the Big Clash... YAY! XD

Date: 2009-07-06 11:10 pm (UTC)One thing, though. “You make me more nervous than falling asleep in a room full of poisonous snakes!” Snakes (and spiders and such) are venomous, plants are poisonous. Injection vs. ingestion. Sorry, still wearing my zoo shirt. :D

Date: 2009-07-07 12:49 am (UTC)This is an awe chapter, full of links for what will be this Gala: a big bang for the soap!
Probably kadaj would make a stink about Yazoo, Reno would do the same about Tseng. I could see like a domino, all the guests acting like monkeys at the savanna!
Great chap and needless to say that Gen and Reeve are the most cute couple ever, and, Yazoo and Reno...ooohhh ...I'm a romantic...I could see love in the air...
Hugs dear and YOU never cease to amaze me!

Date: 2009-07-10 02:41 pm (UTC)Hehe! I'll get to more Genesis and Reeve, your spectacular drawings have really inspired my plot bunnies to breed!
*snugs you to bits!* Thanks again, boo boo!

Date: 2009-07-07 07:09 pm (UTC)Poor Reeve, falling out of his car. I want to tell him that that might be the best thing to happen tonight. I wonder if Gen will be angry on his behalf or if he will laugh? Laughing would be bad. If he laughs, Reeve might be really upset with him, this being his big night and meaning so much to his career.
BTW: I'm sure you can do a good job of the Gala. I just reread the Turk's formal dinner chapter of Reno is God. Headshakingly, embarassingly, hilariously excellent.

Date: 2009-07-10 02:34 pm (UTC)Lol! I think Genesis takes everything in stride, he was more worried for Reeve than anything, and since he's been such close friends with Yuffie for so long, he probably expects people to exit cars by tumbling out onto their backs :D But laughter might be in the works, oh hells yes!
And hehe! Thanks for the reread! I only hope I can make the Gala as ridiculous and drama laden as that dinner! HA!

Date: 2009-07-08 02:01 am (UTC)I just gotta say, Kadaj is the sexiest thing to ever fill a pair of tight leather pants. I don't want him with to hook up with Tseng. Tell your muse I said that.
Reeve/Genesis I love them. I've said before and I'll say it again. They are so sweet together. Genesis is supposed to be this big time player but he is so sweet. Remember the french fries? I love how he is handleing Reeve. It's one thing for Genesis to want to fuck him but he is being so supportive and helpful. Not just making him look good but telling him to look at him if he get's nervous.
And poor Reeve is a nervous wreck, being mobbed on all sides and stuck in the spotlight. Thank god that Genesis is there for him. I think this is going to be a really good night for everyone. :)
Very good episode, I can't wait for next week.

Date: 2009-07-10 02:21 pm (UTC)Yeah, Reno and Yazoo seem to go so well together, I can't seem to stop writing them *smacks self* I just hope they don't get too comfortable :D
And I'm with you, I vote we all have a Nom Kadaj party! Who's with me?! And I'll let him know about the Tseng thing, but knowing Kadaj he'll just do what he wants anyway, hehe.
Reeve and Genesis - don't get me started! I never intended them to just take off like this, but they really just seem to go well together! Keep your fingers crossed for the poor painter, he's gonna have his hands full in the best and worst possible kind of ways!

Date: 2009-07-22 08:11 pm (UTC)Cloud is such a scutch, I tell ya! (oh and that scene where he tries to dig up dirt on Rude in the last chapter; nicely done!)
Yuffie showing up drunk was the highlight of this chapter for me. She's like the harbinger of catastrophe!

Date: 2009-07-26 12:38 am (UTC)And yeah, Cloud is something else, alright! I don't know if I want to pet him or strangle him!
*hands Yuffie a sign* Yes, harbinger of catastrophe pretty much sums it up! I may use that in a future chapter, credit to you, of course! *noms you*

Hahaha, poor Reeve, he´s a mess and Gen isn´t really helping matters XD I´d get even more nervous with him around XD
The encounter between Yuffie and Kadaj was funny :D Yuffie´s a sharp cookie, even when drunk...
Poor Zack, he doesn´t have to be so shy about the camera´s, he looks great ;)
And everyone is there, YAY!!! *excitedly jumps to the next chapter*
