Episode 38

Alright, here we have it! The Gala is finally a wrap, whew! At the suggestion of sussurous I have started to publish the Soap on fanfiction.net - where responses are few and far between and I really have lost interest in, but anything for a friend! Ok, next week's episode should be a good deal longer, but this one kinda had to stop where it was as closure for the Gala and the start of the next part. So, happy Monday, everyone! *snugs you all*

            “Why, you conniving, vindictive little harlot!” Genesis shouted, eyes blazing with anger. Yuffie merely laughed, not bothered in the least, and Reeve stood there like the world’s largest beet – silent and dark red to the roots of his hair.

            “How dare you put your sordid lips on my boyfriend?!” Genesis snarled, and the crowd had drawn back to form a circle around them, watching with avid interest. “You part-time lesbian liar!”

            “Hey!” Yuffie cried, offended. “I am a lesbian!”

            Cloud, surreptitiously taking photos of the drama, drew closer to get a better angle and Genesis turned to drag him into it, pointing at him and saying, “Oh yeah? What about this fellow?”

            “That was back when I was straight!” Yuffie said, waving it away.

            Reeve groaned and covered his face, utterly flustered.

            “We just had sex last night,” Cloud reminded, and Yuffie laughed, saying, “Oh yeah. Well, I guess I’m not a lesbian today, then!”

            “You pretentious, lackluster little charlatan!” Genesis gasped, and declared, “We are in the biggest fight ever!”

            Yuffie’s brows drew down and she asked, “Ever in history?”

            “Ever. In. History!” Genesis affirmed in a heated hiss, yanking her free of Reeve, who wished like everything that he could simply melt through the floor and vanish.

            “Yeah, the War with Wutai has nothing on this,” Cloud dryly remarked, and both Genesis and Yuffie rounded on him, snapping, “Shut up!”

            “I swear to the Goddess, Yuffie, if you lay one finger on Reeve, I shall take you apart!” Genesis warned her, and his eyes rounded in horrified disbelief when she reached out very deliberately and poked Reeve in the shoulder, saying, “Oh yeah? What’re you gonna do about it, you trumped up queen?”

            Gasping in outrage, Genesis slapped her.

            Stunned, Yuffie automatically responded by slapping him back, and Reeve covered his face with both hands while they slapped at each other with faces averted and hands flying.

            “Wow, girl fight,” Cloud laughed, and snapped photos of it while the crowd laughed and talked, all of them cheering for one side or another.

            “Stop it,” Reeve groaned, and then dropped his hands to shout, “I said stop it!”

            Yazoo paused just before the frantic activity of the kitchen and leaned against the wall, trembling and shaken.

            It could not be. That feral, unkind creature was not the little boy Yazoo had known as a child. That little boy was gone, dead, lost so long ago. The likeness was simply his imagination…Wasn’t it?

            “Mrs. ShinRa.”

            Rude’s low, deep voice made him start, yipping a little and covering his heart with his hand, feeling the racing bound of it beneath his palm.

            “Rude! You startled me,” he breathlessly said, laughing nervously

            “Mrs. ShinRa, you are unwell,” Rude purred, and peeled him off of the wall, one large, strong arm behind him to support him. “I should take you home.”

            “I…I can’t leave, Rude, the opening is not over,” Yazoo weakly protested, walking with him towards the noise and the activity.

            “You are shaking, something has happened,” the big man said. “It is time to go.”

            Yazoo paused and looked up at him, asking, “Rude, do you think…do you think it is possible to find someone after they were taken as a child? Do you think that can happen?”

            The man stared down at him, eyes hidden behind his mirrored sunglasses, and said, “I believe that miracles are possible, Mrs. ShinRa.”

            “That boy…” Yazoo said, his voice vague. “Reno’s bodyguard, the Cetran…he looks so like my lost nephew…but there are thousands of Jenovan bastards…it could be that he…”

            Rude gazed at his face, reading his indecision and turmoil before he answered, “There is very little chance that the boy is who you think he is. It is merely a surface resemblance, and were you to look closer, you would see that.”

            He sounded so sure of himself that Yazoo began to doubt what he had seen, mostly because he wanted to believe Rude. He wanted to believe that he was not responsible for not seeing his long lost family, for being the blind link that kept the boy from his rightful place. He didn’t want to be a bad person. He didn’t want to think that he had let all of these long years pass with the missing part of his family right under his nose.

            “You’re probably right,” he breathed, and gave Rude a relieved smile. “It was merely the confusion of the moment.”

            “Yes,” Rude agreed, and led him through the door into chaos.

            Reno started to come around a bit as the car pulled up at his house. As usual, the place was a beehive of activity, but Kadaj coolly instructed the driver to pull up around back in the hopes of getting Reno through the house relatively without interruption.

            “I am sorry,” he whispered again, stroking Reno’s cool brow, smoothing his wild red bangs back from his face. He leaned over him, the memory of Yazoo breathing that word playing in his head over and over. His rage had overcome him, all of the pain and betrayal of being lost as a child bursting to the surface so that he had struck out blindly, clinging desperately to his pain.

            Because it was frightening to contemplate the reality of who he was.

            It scared him to think that there was a future for him where he might have even less freedom than he did right now, a future where Reno would not only not be present, but possibly even forbidden. Tseng had hinted that Reno even knew who he was and had willfully kept him a prisoner…but what kind of prison was love, in the end? There was no cage he knew of that could hold him more securely than the anxious need for Reno’s affection…

            “Kadaj,” Zack said, his voice low and soothing. His deep blue-violet eyes were unhappy and sad when he looked at the boy in the darkness. “It isn’t your fault.”

            “Of course it is,” Kadaj told him, Reno’s head lolling in his lap, the rest of his rangy body outstretched on Mei Li’s lap, his long legs balanced on Zack’s knees. “I let my anger rule me, Zack. Reno is sensitive to stress.”

            Sadly, he looked back down at Reno’s smooth, expressionless face. How young he looked in such repose, and Kadaj felt all the older for it, the one responsible for provoking another seizure. The guilt tore at him, the knowledge that he was contemplating leaving Reno only making it that much worse. How could he dream it, when Reno needed him so? Had it been Yazoo’s name the man had called when he felt it coming? When he knew it would strike and leave him helpless? No, he’d called for his Kadaj – and the boy clung to it, needing to know that he was special somehow, that Reno needed him in some way that he did not need others.

            But, lurking at the edges of his sorrow, he heard Yazoo’s soft voice breathe, “Sojzha…”

            “You cannot prevent what is,” Mei Li said, for once respectful of Kadaj’s place in Reno’s life. “He has always had the sickness, and the medicines do not always work. It is no fault of yours, little Kadaj, that certain things provoke these fits.”

            Kadaj merely kept stroking Reno’s skin in silent apology, trying to force his way through the blank nothingness of Reno’s easy sleep to the man within.

Elena was smug as she led Rufus up to his suite, but it quickly faded to annoyance when he forgot what he wanted from her and made a straight line to his bar.

“Honestly, don’t you think you drink too much?” she asked, and gave his belly a pointed look.

Rufus snorted and said, “The day that is any concern of yours, my dear, is the day that I grow wings and fly away.”

“So…” Elena said, and couldn’t resist, “When pigs fly?”

Rufus glared at her and asked, “Why are you here again?”

Elena sighed and leaned against the bar to pull off her stilettos, practically purring in relief. Even after years of wearing the things, she still couldn’t wait to get them off after a night on her feet.

“I was going to give you the ride of your life, remember?” she asked, letting her voice fall into a throaty, seductive purr.    

Rufus stared at her blankly and said, “There must be some sort of misunderstanding – I can’t fuck a pregnant woman, that’s just…just…”

“Taboo?” Elena offered, and made it sound very, very naughty, which got the desired reaction when Rufus’s cheeks flushed from more than just his drinking.

“Taboo, is it?” he asked, and knocked back his drink. He gestured at her vaguely with his empty glass and demanded, “Do something sexy. If I think about it too much I may throw up.”

Elena laughed and moved away from him, rolling her body in a seductive sway as she reached up to tug the zipper down the small of her back. She kept her eyes on him as she slithered out of the dress, letting it catch on her breasts and then her hips before it dropped to the floor. Teasingly, she fingered the bow between her breasts that hid her bra clasp, and asked, “Is this sexy, yet?”

Rufus blinked, but his eyes were on her stockings and the slinky garter-belt she wore. He swallowed twice but managed to say, “It’ll do. I am a bit hard up, lately.”

Elena laughed as if it was the most clever thing she’d heard in her life, and popped the clasp.

            Shocked by Reeve’s outburst, Genesis dropped his hands.

            Yuffie, in mid-slap, managed to land one on the director’s unprotected cheek and promptly cried, “That serves you, you cock-blocking bitch!”

            “You don’t even have a cock!” Genesis snarled, his hand pressed to his cheek in wounded horror.

            “Stop it this instant, both of you!” Reeve ordered, fists clenched with helpless fury. “For your information, I am not a bone to quibble over, damn it! Yet here you are, fighting with one another! I thought you two were friends? If this is how you treat your friends, how would either of you treat a lover! It’s horrifying to contemplate!”

            “Reeve – ”

            “Not a word out of you!” he ordered, stilling Genesis into contrite silence. He turned his attention to Yuffie and said, “And as for you, young lady, love doesn’t come and go with the flitting disregard of a butterfly! Bouncing from bed to bed, drinking yourself into brain damage, and making a spectacle of yourself does not make you infinitely desirable, you know!”

            He looked from one stunned face to the other and said with offended dignity, “I would not be caught dead with either of you! You’ve both behaved appallingly!”

            “I second that,” Cloud murmured, and earned himself another cranky order to shut up.

            Genesis frowned and turned his head away, looking haughty and above it all.

            Yuffie tried to fling herself onto Reeve again, but he caught her by the shoulders and held her back.

            “Oh, Reeve,” she sobbed, wobbling dangerously, her cheeks still red from the slap-fight she’d had with Genesis. “Don’t you see how much I care about you?”

            With that, her head dipped forward and she threw up on the hapless painter’s shoes.

            “Well,” Cloud said, laughing. “I think that about covers it.”

            Yazoo stepped out into the Gallery proper and stared in horror at what was happening before him – Yuffie and Genesis slapping away at each other like young girls, sputtering furious curses in each others faces while Reeve looked on in horrified silence. The crowd was noisily cheering and hooting, absolutely delighted that the whole Gala had degenerated into a three-ring circus with Yuffie and Genesis as the drawing act, and every second brought it that much closer to total destruction.

Reeve’s reputation, his future, the Gala itself was in shambles and Yazoo stood there with no way to stop it.

Everything that had happened that night coalesced on him all at once – Rufus’s verbal attack, slapping his husband, the heated, half-drunk kiss outside with Reno, the interruption by the boy who may or may not be his lost nephew, Reno’s sudden attack, and the Cetran boy’s low warning that the best thing he could do for Reno was stay far away from him. Gentle and hesitant by nature – easily wounded and vulnerable thanks to the way his parents had raised him – Yazoo felt the stress of it rise up and simply sweep away all rational reaction. He was suddenly incapable of wading out into the thick of that mess and handling it as he had handled thousands of other disruptions like it. He suddenly could no more deal with this situation than he could spontaneously change gender.

He found he could only cover his mouth with his hand and weep, overcome by the night full of upsetting surprises.

            Rude, always a man of immediate action, calmly reached over and pulled the fire alarm, filling the Gala with the shriek of bells and startling the howling guests.

            As the crowd swarmed towards the doors, he caught Yazoo around the waist and spirited him out of the back, away from this nightmare of an evening.

            Zack helped Kadaj get Reno inside. Actually, he got the slender but surprisingly heavy redhead in a fireman’s carry and carried him up the back stairs in silence, managing to get him to his suite without any of his beauties the wiser for it.

            Kadaj’s grim silence worried him, but the boy resisted any attempt on Zack’s part for comfort, he merely undressed in unselfconscious silence and clambered onto the bed to strip Reno’s limp, unresisting body.

            “You should stay,” Mei Li suggested, at the foot of the bed and unlacing Reno’s expensive boots, dropping one highly polished, leather shoe to the floor after another. She did not look down as she stripped the socks off of his long, slender feet, she simply kept her gaze steadily on Zack.

            “I can’t,” he told her, uncomfortable with it all. He still remembered Reno’s unrelenting grip on his wrist, and shivered at the thought of what might have happened had Kadaj not intervened and shifted the mobster’s deadly focus.

            “You won’t,” Mei Li corrected, helping naked, beautiful Kadaj get Reno’s tie, jacket, and shirt off of him.

            Zack stood there in awkward silence while they got Reno completely undressed, laying his nude, pale, but muscular body out atop the silky coverlet. Kadaj snuggled into the hollow of the man’s side, kissing his cheek and murmuring his apologies, tears bright in his green eyes.

            “You should stay,” Mei Li said again, and straightened to pull the pins from her hair, sending it cascading down her back in dark, startling waves. Her painted eyes regarded him with mild, even interest as she undid the sashes holding her robes closed. With a tug and a shrug, she let them drop and revealed her body to him in a rush of sensory overload – the sweet scent of her skin, the pearlescent sheen to her, the amazing, large breasts with their large, dark nipples, the slender sweep of her waist and the wide curve of her generous hips tapering down to perfectly shaped legs and dainty toes. And there, without apology or explanation, the soft sex that marked her as a man in only one way.

            In that purring, soft voice, she repeated yet again, “You should stay.”

            Reno shifted in his sleep.

            Kadaj watched them both with neutral green eyes.

            And Zack did not say no.

Not that I think anything's going to happen (right away) but I think it reveals something about Zack's background that he's willing (and wants) to share a bed with three other guys. Makes me wonder about that 'Brotherhood' of his...

As from that (mean, evil, nasty) cliffhanger, the rest of the Gala was great!

I love Cloud's little comments. He just kept them all stirred up and loved doing it too. Having Reeve finally stand up for himself was one of those 'finally!' moments. Yuffie probably won't remember it anyways so it'll make no difference in how she treats him, but Genesis will remember. Maybe it'll make him rethink and revalue his relationship with Reeve. After all, Reeve's doesn't have the same rule book as the theatre divas. Relationships mean something to him.

Rude... what's he up to? He convinces Yazoo (who was quite willing to be convinced) that Kadaj isn't who and what she knows he is. Why? Is it part of his deal with Tseng? (I shall have to go back and relook at that chapter.)

Yazoo finally reached her breaking point. It's sad but I can see it as being a catalyst for her. I don't think Rude's reassurance about Kadaj is going to last long though.

Rufus and Elena. What a pair of asses. I'm still thinking their sex is going to be as disastrous as the Gala was...

Looking forward to the next chapter.

I have become the Ebol Queen of Cliffhangers, lol! I apologize! I just needed a clear, cut and dried transition from the Gala to other events :D You're right, it does say a lot about Zack's background (or a lot about my own kinks ;) ) and I think maybe it could lead the plot in a lot of different ways. I gotsta think on it...

Cloud is a master instigator and shit-stirrer, all part of being a nosy journalist, I guess :D But, boy, was he having fun! LOL! It's Reeve I feel really bad for, having his night so wrecked, his dream-girl puke on his shoes, and his not-boyfriend make a scene. Those three aren't done with each other by far, but I think Reeve is about as angry as it is possible for him to get.

Rude needs Kadaj to stay right where he is, a second watch on Reno's actions where Yazoo is concerned. Everything he does revolves around Yazoo right now, and he works to that end alone. Having Yazoo's family arrive to find their long-lost baby boy would definitely put a damper on his plans, and he simply can't have that. :D

I dunno about the sex for Rufus and Elena, if anything, she's a pro so they got that going for them. Not to say the emotional aspect won't be utter burnt potatoes...

I loved the whole Gala event. It was very exciting, so much happened, there are so many new questions that need to be answered. I don't know how you come up with this stuff, and keep track of it but this soap is endlessly entertaining. You do excellent work.

God, the slappy fight was so fun to write! I tried to make it that real I Don't Know How To Fight Girl Fight that I've seen countless times over the years, lol! Reeve will probably, in his current frame of mind, not go home with any of them. He's pretty pissed off.

I'm glad you liked the Gala! I was so worried about it turning out too weak! I'm still not totally pleased with it, but I guess it is published now and will have to do!

Yuffie vs. Genesis = wonderful. I loved the cliché catfight. And thumbs up for Reeve finding some courage. Yuffie won't care too much, I guess.

Genesis is a true drama queen :D No incident is too small! No happenstance too coincidental but that Drama Queen can't take care of it! I believe some kissing and making up is in the works, but is it Gen with Reeve, or Yuffie McPukester?

There is some angry, drunken Rufus and Elena sex coming, I've decided. They really do suit one anotther.

Yazoo is having to grow up fast and it isn't easy. He's not used to all of this emotional pressure, and it shows that he cracks so easily.

And don't get me started on Zack *Fans self over the idea of the four of them having sex*
