Trying Not To Cry Right Now

Okay, awful of all evil, mean, and sneaky goddamned things has happened. Somehow, someway, as I've been perusing my files for my fanfics (ie--Dog Will Hunt. Reno is God, etc), SOMETHING has been deleting them in my wake. Whatever chapters I hadn't posted yet are GONE, I lost five of the best chapters from Reno Is God and they are ones that I simply will never be able to rewrite. I lost ALL of Dog Will Hunt, and all of several stories I hadn't posted at all yet. Luckily, I'd backed up last month, but the RIG things had already been deleted without my knowing it. Something evil is in my computer, and as I am the only one who uses it, I know it isn't ME. Christ on a crosshairs, all that fucking work down the goddamned drain...No wonder I have a splitting fucking headache and want to cry.

But you know, whenever the universe decides to destroy something that I've written, when I rewrite it I always am happy in the end. Hopefully you'll redo the chapters and you'll be happy with the product.

Did you.. get the operative words in that last sentence? REDO THE CHAPTERS!! PLEEEASE!! Don't stop writing just because the universe is cruel!

I don't know if I have it in my to redo just yet, there was alot of stuffs smashed into those chapters...I shoulda gone with my instinct and just slapped them onto my LJ, but it was all discordant and unconnected and I didn't want to confuse people. DARN IT! Hopefully, I'll get outta my funk and rewrite...what a WASTE!

You have to find out what's doing that because that's just, ngnggghhhh... words aren't enough. Forget crying, find it and kill the f*cker.

You can copy/paste the chapters from ff.net (as long as they were posted there). It's fairly simple but time consuming.

I, er, um, happen to have Reno is God saved as a word file, up to 'How Adults Converse Reasonably.' It's for when I have to work offline and want to read some of your stuff. *blush* I know, total fangurl stalker stuff, but hey! if it gets it back to you.

Sweet! Thanks for the backup! First thing I did when I realized something was deleting my shit was go on FF.net and recopy EVERYTHING. Those five vanished chapters break my heart, because it was that pivotal moment with Yazoo losing patience with all finally and now...FUCK I CAN'T REDO THAT SHIT!!!!!! It's like every time I closed something in Word and checked "yes please" to save it, it erased it instead. I'm good, though, got all of the chapters up to current resaved, .rar'd and backed up, but it doesn't undo my damage. I'm gonna go smoke another cigarette now, I'm so irritable!

I know it sucks , it makes you want to cry and you think you can't rewrite it. But you can get past all that, make it better, and thumb your nose at the stupid circuits that f'ed it up in the first place. But in the meantime, I've got two virtual shoulders a plate of pumpkin squares and a bottle of Jack Daniels if you need it.

Omg the EXACT same thing has happened to me before, an interview transcript I had been typing out for the past 3 hrs DELETED ITSELF when I saved it. And I definitely made sure I clicked the save button. I cried D:

It may or may not be a virus, but I scanned my computer anyway and it didnt seem to come up with an OH HAY SUP, I FOUND SOMETHING EVOL IN HEER WANNA DELETE? so I'm not too sure what you can do :(

Thanks, kiddo! I wound up spending half of yesterday throwing everything I could salvage onto Yahoo briefcase just to keep it safe! It might be a bit before I can get back into the swing of things, but I should have updates on LJ soon since they run behind my ff.net updates...Sigh...

Don't lose heart! You can write it BETTER, and I know it. It can't be helped really, you're just that good.
Oh, and I think you may have a virus. I had the same think happen to me, and it turned out to be a Trojan virus and a hacker. That fucker used the Trojan to screw over my PC and delete files, and the when I was online, he arranged and moved files. He even made a 'diary' log that listed all the goodies he had done. And made a list over 1,000 websites long of porn sites...... Yeah, I'd have somebody take a look at it, but you may have to reset you computer to the original default factory setting if its a Trojan or a Bloodhound virus.

Oh NO! You're right! That's just evil. But you're a talented writer, so you WILL recover, you WILL write it better, and your computer will NOT do this again! (it BETTER NOT!) An idea if you'd like to use it: I always forget to back up my stuff as often as I should (bad, I know), but one thing I do with my writing is email it to myself as I get it done, as a form of remote storage in case I lose something. In any case, enjoy AC, have a drink, eat some chocolate, and regroup!

I spent like 4 hours putting everything I could salvage onto Yahoo Briefcase (oh how the mighty have fallen!) and restoring what I could. Seriously, I've been glaring death at my poor little laptop to the point that I think it might actually be frightened! Thank you for the good-luck hugs! I need them!

Hey there! You know, I almost lost all hope after I read this horrible massage... I was sitting there waiting for a new update on Reno is god and now this. That's my favorite story! Really! I lost ALL of my Yazoo related stuff (pictures,really old stories that are nowhere posted now, links and my first own fanfic) when my computer just died. So I know how you must feel right now. But hey, you're obviously a passionate writer so you won't abandon your fics! Sometimes it helps to read a story again from the beginning. Maybe if you do that some new and even better ideas will come to your mind :). Well I wish you all the creativity in the world and good luck! Don't let that evil thing win!
